Well, this isn’t the worst news I’ve heard all day.

The Black Keys and The Flaming Lips will hit the road together for a short joint tour this Spring. The two festival favorites meet up on April 28th in Kansas City and keep the rock ‘n’ roll hysteria going through May 3rd. No word on whether or not Patrick Carney plans to steal Wayne Coyne’s laser gloves, but we’re sure security is pretty tight around them these days. Consult both bands’ full itineraries below.
Update: Keys frontman Dan Auerbach recently discussed the band’s follow-up to 2011′s El Camino with Mojo, stating: “We’re going to start making the new album in the second week of January and we’re hoping to have it done by some time in March.” He also added, “The record isn’t written yet, we’ll do it when we get into the studio. This is when we both work best, when we’re dying to make an album. All of our records take place in the studio, in that we make stuff up while we’re there.”

The soundtrack to RZA’s directorial debut, The Man With the Iron Fists, is out tomorrow. It features a collaboration between RZA with the Black Keys called “The Baddest Man Alive”, which now has an action-packed video directed by Chris Marrs Piliero. It stars both RZA and the Black Keys, who battle in an Asian restaurant.

RZA slaps Dan Auerbach in the face with a dead fish, tears a guy’s arm off, and rips a woman’s blouse off— right before he raps about how The Baddest Man Alive will “date rape beauty right in front of the beast.” (Fail.)

If you’re the RZA (YOU WISH) and you want to make life super easy on yourself as you attempt your directorial debut, be sure to include the following people in your film project:

  • Lucy Liu
  • Kanye West
  • Russell Crowe
  • Wiz Khalifa
  • The Black Keys
  • Wu-Tang Clan

Seriously, have you ever seen a list of more universally watchable/listenable people?

Throw in lots of gratuitous violence, kung-fu, and Pam Grier, and there’s no possible way this movie could be anything other than super enjoyable. I’m not saying it’s going to change your life in a “questioning your existence”, Inception, kind of way, but f*ck it - that ain’t the RZA’s style anyway. This movie looks like fun forever.

Also, I can’t confirm this until seeing the whole movie, but it looks like Russell Crowe might be kind of hot again. We’ve been waiting a long time.

There’s already a video for the Black Keys’ “Gold on the Ceiling,” but in this new take, the Ohio duo get the weirdo treatment from Kids, Gummo and Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney romp around a lo-fi film world in bizarre baby suits, with little versions of themselves strapped to their chests. Don’t miss ridiculous image macro-text like “We Love Booty” superimposed on some unsettling shots of the group staring into the camera like serial killers. Be sure to catch the end, when the bizarre Atl Twins make a cameo appearance to flaunt some gold bars.

“Gold on the Ceiling” is from the Black Keys’ latest album, El Camino.
