Happy Sweet 16 to Ok Computer.

Happy Sweet 16 to Ok Computer.

Whether you have the day off work today, or you’re mad that you don’t so you don’t plan to do a single genuinely productive thing if you can help it, we’ve got something for you: an hour-long interview between Alec Baldwin and Thom Yorke. Smells like a perfect Monday morning distraction.

On this week’s episode of Alec Baldwin’s WNYC radio show, “Here’s the Thing”, the “30 Rock” star’s special guest is Thom Yorke. The pair talk for almost an hour about, among many, many other things, the first time Yorke used computers to make music, their shared background with political activism, and why Yorke needs a break after Atoms for Peace’s tour winds up. There’s plenty of ace, nerdy factoids too: Ed O’Brien got his in withRadiohead because the 16-year old Yorke appreciated how “he was dressed like Morrissey and had some cool socks.” Listen above, or read the entire transcript here.

No amount of Thom Yorke dancing will ever be enough Thom Yorke dancing.

Anyone who’s watched Lance Armstrong’s confessional interview with Oprah Winfrey can’t have helped coming away with the skin-crawling sensation that he’s, well, a bit of a creep. Video maestro Matthijs Vlot took this sensation to its logical conclusion, with a little help from Radiohead. It’s impossible to even feel too sympathetic for Lance. To paraphrase another of their classics, he did it to himself, and that’s what really hurts…

I love this so much. There are no words.

Frank Ocean covering “Fake Plastic Trees”. Do I need to work any harder to convince you to stop what you’re doing and watch this? Didn’t think so.

David Gray has no respect, says everyone. More via NME:

David Gray has angered residents in London’s Crouch Hill after he announced that he is planning to turn historic recording studio The Church Studios into a block of flats and offices. The studio, which has hosted sessions by the likes of Bob Dylan, My Bloody Valentine, Radiohead, Kaiser Chiefs and Bombay Bicycle Club, is a converted church and was originally owned by Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart before he sold it to Gray in 2003. Local residents have expressed their disgust at the plans, with Sue Hessel, who chairman of Haslemere Road Residents’ Association, telling the Ham & High: “This is so sad. Crouch End has enough flats. Crouch End’s music heritage is what makes it such a special place to live. Turning such a culturally rich building into flats is not in the spirit of Crouch End.” Gray’s architect, Mark Ruthven, has said that the studios are now “obsolete” and completely out of date, saying: “It is completely obsolete, it doesn’t get used. This is a way of the building being used. The heritage is preserved. The important thing is to find a re-use and that it is done in a sensitive way.” Gray himself has issued a statement about the plans, with his representative blaming “the current upheaval in the music business” for his decision to try and convert the studios into flats. The representative said: “Having owned and enjoyed the church for nearly 10 years, it is time to move on. David would be delighted to sell The Church Studios but given the current upheaval in the music business and the repercussions on commercial recording stuios, it is only prudent to explore other avenues, including redevelopment.” Before Gray can procede with his plans, he will require planning permission from Haringey Council, who will rule on the bid at a later date. David Gray released his ninth studio album ‘Foundling’ in 2010.

You know how, like, sometimes news isn’t really newsbut it involves enough popular people that you’ll end up talking about it anyway? This is that.

Details are still scant, but today BBC 6Music broadcast a clip of an interview with Jack White in which he confirms that, yep, Radiohead did come and record at Third Man Records in Nashville. (Radiohead alluded to the fact at Bonnaroo.) Listen here, and read the (tiny) transcript below:
“I don’t know how much to tell about. I didn’t play with them or produce it, but they came and recorded at Third Man, and I don’t know what else they want to be said about that so that’s probably all I can say!”

THANKS FOR NOTHING WE’RE SO EXCITED.

Following excitable fan reports and wobbly audio clips from recent soundchecks, Radiohead have finally given new song “Full Stop” an airing that was captured for audible posterity. Watch a video of the band performing the song at Chicago’s First Midwest Bank Amphitheater from yesterday, below.

A copy of the song’s lyrics appears to have been sold on eBay in a major haul of backstage Radiohead memorabilia from a March 15 show at the Jobing.com arena in Glendale, Arizona, though the song doesn’t appear on the night’s setlist. The motherlode— comprising, among other items, Thom Yorke’s hat, Phil Selway’s drumsticks, and uh, special Radiohead signs for the women’s toilets— sold on March 21 for $910Nine hundred and ten dollars. Radiohead fans got cash to burn, apparently.

Brit music mag (how many words can I abbrev. this morning?) NME just released their Top 100 Songs of the 90s. And no alarms, no surprises, it’s all pretty much what you would expect (can I get a “what’s up” for my Radiohead reference in this 90s themed post?!)…But not necessarily in the order you would expect. All the right players are on board, but I gotta say the order NME ranks them in is decidedly, uh, British? That’s got to be it. Because there’s no way an American magazine would rank “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Speak” in the bottom 20. Anyway, it’s a great list, everything you want is there, and since we’ve all seen a million lists like this from American sources, it’s pretty interesting to see how our Brit-pals remember things.
