The Flaming Lips are Being Strange Again
I feel like I already mentioned Jack White’s plans to break a Guinness World Record this summer, but I can’t seem to find that post, so maybe it never happened. It’s a real struggle for me to not talk about Jack White, like, all the time. So maybe I was showing restraint. Let’s be proud of me for that for a second. *pause* Annnd moving on.
Well, he ain’t the only cowboy at the record-breaking summer tour rodeo!
The Flaming Lips have decided to break the world record for most concerts played in 24 hours during their summer tour. (The current record, FYI, is held by Jay-Z and was set back in 2006 while he was promoting Kingdom Come on November 18, in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.)
In a press release, Lips leader and perennial loveable weirdie Wayne Coyne said:

I’ve accepted the attempt at breaking the world record of performing eight shows in 24 hours. And I’ve explained to the music freaks at MTV, VH1 and CMT that I am not a host… But, I always liked the way Jerry Lewis would get all sweaty toward the end of his yearly telethon… To play and sing Flaming Lips songs at eight in the morning… Well, I’m open to new experiences…

Anyone else starting to get the creeping feeling like this summer is going to be super strange, but like, in the way that results in a lot of memorable concert experiences that our grandkids are going to be jealous of?
